Who wasn't suspicious of Early Man? They couldn’t possibly be any damn good: they were on Matador, after all, and Matador hadn’t put out a listenable record since Unsane’s debut in 1989. But Closing In turned out to be one of the year’s better metal releases. So, no wonder David Pajo of Slint and some other indie-rock bands I’ve never wasted my time listening to decided to shamelessly ape their sound with his own metal project, Dead Child.
