WHY I DID NOT ATTEND THE BRUTAL TRUTH/REPULSION/PIG DESTROYER SHOW ON FRIDAY NIGHT

  • It was raining.
  • It was in Brooklyn.
  • While I enjoy Brutal Truth's new album Evolution Through Revolution, it was not as good as Extreme Conditions Demand Extreme Responses or Need To Control or even Sounds Of The Animal Kingdom, and bands being how they are, the set was likely to feature as many new songs as songs from all those old albums put together.
  • The same goes for Pig Destroyer, whose last album, Phantom Limb, was measurably inferior to Terrifyer.
  • I do not like Repulsion's Horrified at all, so watching them play it in its entirety held absolutely no appeal for me.
  • I am old and cranky and would simply rather stay home and watch Mad Men (Season Two) and The Middleman (Season Only) on DVD.

Okay, stop with the 'grumpy old man' thing. I'm older than you! You are giving me a complex....well okay, wondering if I should have a complex. But I am still looking at things with a bright and shiny veneer, I guess.

I came up for the show (among other things) because I'd never seen any of the bands live. I didn't like Repulsion....they didn't grab me and the sound was a bit wonky.

Was it worth standing in one of the most sweltering rooms I have ever been in for about 4 hours, while everyone wiped copious amounts of sweat from their faces? Dunno about that, but as a newbie to the bands I enjoyed it.
