"Whalebone"

This song has a lot going for it. It’s got cool synth squiggles that sound ripped from a late ’70s Yes album (maybe Going For The One); background vocals on the first half reminiscent of the Steve Miller Band; and falsetto leads that are only slightly douchebaggy. Plus, they clearly own some Neu! records, though whether those would be on original vinyl or recently reissued CD is both unclear and unimportant. What’s important is that they’re damn close to being more than the sum of their parts, which these days is quite an achievement.
